Triple Top

The Triple Top chart pattern is often used to predict the reversal of a long-term uptrend and is one of the stronger bearish reversal signals available to technical traders. It forms after a sustained rally when price reaches a resistance level and pulls back, then rallies again to the same high and retreats, and then makes a third attempt to break through — only to fail once more. After three distinct peaks test the same resistance line without success, there is a clear indication that buying interest at those levels is exhausted. Each successive peak represents bulls trying harder but achieving less, and the growing inability to push higher signals a shift in the underlying balance of power.

The pattern is confirmed as a bearish reversal when price breaks below the support level — the neckline — formed by the two troughs between the three peaks. This breakdown signals that the buyers who held the uptrend together have given up, and a meaningful decline is likely to follow. The measured downside target is the distance from the resistance peaks to the neckline, projected downward from the breakdown point. Volume behavior is particularly informative here: volume typically decreases from the first to the third peak, reflecting diminishing enthusiasm, and should then surge on the neckline breakdown to confirm the reversal is genuine.

Bot traders find the Triple Top compelling because the three-touch resistance creates a highly reliable and testable ceiling. An automated strategy can identify the resistance zone defined by the three peaks, calculate the neckline as the key support level, and execute a short trade on a confirmed close below it. A stop-loss placed just above the most recent peak limits exposure if the pattern fails, while the measured move provides a disciplined exit target. Because the pattern is inherently patient — forming over an extended period — bots monitoring for it can operate with less noise and greater confidence in the setup's validity.
